   ad infinitum has had a minor makeover: I've added an entire new section to its layout. Where "Fractal Basics" and "Watching the Rose" formerly stood alone in the site layout, I've now set aside a hub page for written information. The new section, called "Essays", also includes several new articles regarding fractals and fractal art. Read on!

   The site has moved! ad infinitum is now hosted by Shyper, a hosting company with amazing ad-free packages. I won't claim to understand how they do it, but with these people I have room for many more fractals and a generally much bigger site. The .tk address and e-mail still work, so keep using them, but look for a new and improved site coming right up!
   The first example of that improvement shows in the brand spanking new "fractal basics" introduction. Better written and much-revised, it's my latest and best attempt at laying out the mathematics and beauty of fractals without getting too technical.

   Another delightful discovery: the quaternion Julia set. These four-dimensional fractals are visible to the human eye in three-dimensional slices; with my discovery of Quat 1.20, I've begun surfing through two more dimensions of fractalia. I haven't been working long, but already I've added these little gems:

   I have discovered Apophysis. The results stagger me... only a few hours on this generator, and the results are just incredible. Otherworldly... simply amazing. Expect lots of new fractals as soon as I have room to add them.

   I think I've outgrown Geocities. Looking around the web for a new host, I stumbled across a group called SpiralPages. The package looks almost too good to be true. I've submitted my site to their approval... Thus begins my search for new web-hosting. Hopefully it won't take too long.

   After over a week, the site is finally back up! Enjoy it. I won't even try to list all the new images, since there are so many, but I will say that it's worth browsing all the new galleries. Also, don't fret if you can't find the captions I used to have: I've moved them to separate pages with the images, so you can see both at once. Enjoy!

   Good news! After some re-rendering of various images, I've killed two birds with one stone: some of the larger images are now better suited to viewing 1024x768, and the site size is below 15 megs again. Phew.
   I still intend to move the site, though, as soon as I find a better provider. Regular site visitors may have noticed that every time I send out an ad infinitum update, the site goes down for at least a little while: Geocities doesn't give me much bandwidth, and with an image-heavy site I need a lot of the stuff. Besides, I think I've found a good new host... we'll see how it works out. My fingers remain crossed.

  Oops. I checked the disk size of the revamped ad infinitum today... it takes up 18 megabytes of my hard drive. My current host, Geocities, only gives me fifteen. So it is that I embark on a quest for a new and better host server where I can have more space. If I can get a lot more space, so much the better--that means I'll be able to have more fractals, better information, and all kinds of goodies for everyone.
   In the meantime, though, the site's wings will be clipped: not all the fractals will be accessible. I'm sorry for the continuing inconvenience, but it will end as soon as I move the site into a new home.

   Google today displayed a very special logo image--it was festooned with bits of famous Julia-set fractals and the formula "z=z^2+c". Apparently today is Gaston Julia's birthday. Happy birthday to he-who-discovered-the-Julia-fractal, the man whose work preceded Mandelbrot's! He is the precursor of all I do here. (And thanks, Google, for recognizing him.)
   In other news, ad infinitum has a new logo! I'm sure you saw it on your way in. If not, check out the home page.
   Also, the update log has been updated to deal with an ever-lengthening list of updates.
