What are you doing here? No, really, it isn’t funny. You
couldn’t possibly want to know more about me. I’m boring! Really!
All right. You persist. I suppose I could make you sorry you asked.
My name is Alexandra. I live in the midwestern United States, in a fairly nondescript
suburb. I’m younger than most, older than some. My face is forgettable: brown ponytail,
gray eyes, a nose prominent enough to show up on X-ray. That’s all.
I’m an idea person; from my earliest memories I’ve loved learning. (In elementary school I
was the one climbing trees instead of playing dolls. I pestered my naturalist aunt with
questions: what does that bird eat? Why do plants grow? Where did the sun come from?) My
parents never taught me that that wasn’t cool, so I grew up a geek and proud of it. By my
definition, a geek is someone who loves to learn and isn’t afraid to show it. The older I
get, the more I learn how unusual genuine geekdom is.
I go to school during the day; at night I do my homework and sleep. On weekends I visit
with friends, ski, hike in the woods, or sail. I do love to sail, and I do love to hike:
the closeness to nature brings out the Romantic in me. One whiff of
vivid-sunset, sweetened-breeze, or verdant-forest and I drip poetry.
Sometimes, when the mood takes me, I
write; often I read. I think I’m a fairly good writer, with room to grow of course. My
favorite authors include Kurt Vonnegut, Anne McCaffrey, and William Gibson; I’ve just
finished The Count of Monte Cristo for the fourth time, and I’ve loved it. Science fiction
and fantasy are especially good at sweeping me off my feet, though any really good
literature does the same.
So that’s me, in a nutshell. The patterns inside this walnut are lovely, but I wouldn’t
mind getting out of here. Why don’t you head back to the rest of the site? This page
doesn’t really matter anyway. | |
